Once again, I had the pleasure to interview El Feeling, a Colombian trio proud of their roots consisting of Caro Cobo, Seache, and Sergio Aldana, who project their career from California, exalting the music of their home country.
This time we talked about their new EP titled “Sigamos con el trip”. Said work of music is literally a trip through their experiences as youth, latinos and Colombians. Along this journey there are folkloric sounds mixed with modern types of rhythms like cumbia and urban to get the party started. The accordion, hallmark of the band, is strongly present. And just as they explain, El Feeling creates their own world, one where the listeners enter also every time they listen to them or watch their videos.
The guys comment, in regard to the creation of the songs: “We all pitch our ideas. The trip offers an easily comprehended aural expedition on which one sound takes to the other and, in spite of their contrasts and differences, they´re not abrupt and are designed to delight the listener´s ears.”
They shared with me that their inspiration “comes mostly from our experiences as children, the music we heard when we were little, folkloric dance, the radio, the Colombian feeling, the foreign and the urban ones.”
to -and see- stories narrated inside this world El Feeling creates to express their emotions. If you would like to know more about it, check the previous interview right here.
The EP starts with an instrumental intro called “Lodi”, which refers to the name of a street in Los Angeles where they gather most of the time. Caro explains: “We wanted to show the experience of how El Feeling would feel like live, create an atmosphere.”
Right after there is “Psicolatino”, with an interesting mix of folkloric sounds I dare to say, look very ancestral, and that are combined with modern dance tunes, giving as result an emblem piece of the Latin feeling. “There´s a world that calls us to dance. It´s the essence of the psicolatino” (“Hay un mundo que nos llama a bailar. Es la esencia del psicolatino.”) The instrumental combination, and the voices, make you feel like you´re really in that world.
The third track, “Amapolas”, is an uplifting song that calls for union saying: “Everything is better when we´re together” (“todo es mejor cuando estamos juntos”). It´s a tune with very positive lyrics where “Our universe, more than black and white, our hearts are multicolored” (“Nuestro universo, más que blanco y negro, son multicolores nuestros corazones.”) This message, plus the instruments, fueled with Carol´s sweet voice, makes us want to repeat the song over and over without tiring.
“El Último Baile” is the bitter part in this trip, since it´s about a breakup, infidelity, and heartache. Nothing is perfect in life. An unpleasant situation couldn´t be left out in this journey.
“Malibu” is the more relaxed part of this trip. It takes us to a day at the beach full of fun and worry-free in Malibu. The group members, just as I said above, live in California, and they´ve had experiences there, too, which are also part of this trip.

“Tatacoa” is an instrumental break that, despite not having vocals, it still has a role in the EP. Its title
refers to the Tatacoa Desert, one of the largest arid areas of Colombia. It was there where the accompanying music video was made. This recreates a post-apocalyptic scene with uninhabitable conditions for living. El Feeling portrays how our trip in life could end if we don´t take care of the planet. The images show a very interesting “criollo” Mad Max.
The trip ends with “Volver a casa”, a piece that, from the beginning, generates nostalgia to whom have been away from home for a long time. It´s a perfect anthem for every migrant. It comes with a video recorded in Villa de Leiva, on which the group can be seen having a good time, without any kind of script or story, just being themselves, enjoying their home: Colombia.
El Feeling is a big believer of perseverance. At the moment, they present themselves as independent artists who, living in a country different to theirs, still preserve their roots and make use of them to connect with their listeners.
The songs from this EP are already available on all music platforms and airing on Colombian radio stations such as La Mega, La W radio, LAUD ESTEREO, and Caracol Radio. Their videos can be seen on YouTube. Watch them and you will get to know those worlds I´ve spoken of.
